This is part of a creative project called 100 Word, 100 Days. In this project I’ll be writing a 100 word piece about my experience as a new mother every day for 100 days. Read more here.

In the church where my dad was a choir boy, where my parents were married, where I was baptized, our daughter was baptized today. My dad, a Catholic deacon, presided over the baptism, with my sister and her husband as godparents.

It was an intimate, private event, and it was chaos. My niece and nephews splashed in the holy water and trying to climb to the lit candles. Our daughter screamed when the holy water was poured over her head, and was not fond of the holy oil. She still smells of myrrh. It was a perfectly ordinary, sacred time.
