This is part of a creative project called 100 Word, 100 Days. In this project I’ll be writing a 100 word piece about my experience as a new mother every day for 100 days. Read more here.

We’ve given our daughter gas drops so many times I think she associates the taste with her stomach feeling better. I do not know if gas plagues her or how to get a burp every feeding. I do not know if her spitting is reflux or normal baby digestion. All I can do, when she was screaming, inconsolable, arching her back, was to whisper to her as I tried to soothe her, “I love you and I am here.” Then my husband gave her gas drops. Some combination of our actions plus Taylor Swift finally calmed her enough to sleep.
