This is part of a creative project called 100 Word, 100 Days. In this project I’ll be writing a 100 word piece about my experience as a new mother every day for 100 days. Read more here.

As a Midwesterner, I’m very familiar with the long drive. Now our daughter has had her first.

Driving with an infant (and a dog) takes longer, but is more satisfying. We ate our lunch in a public park and watched other families play on the playground. I nursed her at a Starbucks over an afternoon cup of coffee. She napped in between stops, sleeping through the radio and our dog’s whines.

It was far more enjoyable to take the time she needed, rather than pushing ourselves to the most restrictive schedule. The journey is the destination and all, after all.
