This is part of a creative project called 100 Word, 100 Days. In this project I’ll be writing a 100 word piece about my experience as a new mother every day for 100 days. Read more here.

I worried before having my daughter about being absorbed by motherhood. After birth I feared and loved how much space my daughter takes up in my mind. And still I left my daughter for three hours today to meet up for a drink with some girlfriends.

I checked her nap tracker a few times, and showed off a handful of photos. And videos. And I talked about the challenges of naptime and how much she’s grown. But we also talked about relationships and work and current events and I felt gloriously adrift outside of my beloved, new role as mama.
