This is part of a creative project called 100 Word, 100 Days. I’ll be writing a 100-word piece every day for 100 days about my experience as a new mother and sharing the pieces here.

Today I left my twelve-day-old for the first time. After spending the day with her sleeping in my arms and playing at eating, I let our dog drag me out for a walk. It was steamy. We stopped at Dairy Queen and the cashier informed me my card was expired. I hadn’t noticed, since it happened right after she was born. There was no ice cream after all.

At home she was asleep on her Dad’s chest, who has been able to leave and run errands. The rub is here- protective of her reliance on me, envious of his freedom.
