This is part of a creative project called 100 Word, 100 Days. In this project I’ll be writing a 100 word piece about my experience as a new mother every day for 100 days. Read more here.
Cries, yes. But there are the whimpering cries, and the wailing cries, and when she’s very upset the trilling cries, which sound like a cross between a bird song and a special effect created alien call. There are smacks of her lips when she’s hungry and grunts when she’s rooting and slurps and sucking while she’s eating. After she’s done eating there are hiccups and groans, especially when she’s passing gas. In her sleep she squawks and sighs, which always startles us. And then she makes us laugh.
I knew newborns are noisy. I never imagined such a rich variety.
