This is part of a creative project called 100 Word, 100 Days. In this project I’ll be writing a 100 word piece about my experience as a new mother every day for 100 days. Read more here.

I kill every herb I grow and once was fired from working on a farm. And yet my in-laws are here, helping to cut down trees and tearing out weeds in our front yard. Then we can plant early snowball cauliflower and five-color silverbeet swiss chard in raised beds.

If I can give our garden the attention and time it needs, then we might end up with vegetables to be proud of. Parenting asks for much more, of course. But I can give our daughter all that our garden needs, and I can give her all my impossible, radical hope.
