This is part of a creative project called 100 Word, 100 Days. In this project I’ll be writing a 100 word piece about my experience as a new mother every day for 100 days. Read more here.
At night, to stay awake during bleary feedings, my husband and I solve word puzzles together. At the brewery he holds her swaddle draped over my shoulder so she can latch with privacy.
Shortly after she was born and we were in the hospital, he would hold her to my breast with one hand and rub her cheeks with his other, helping her learn how to suck. I fed her with one arm, my other made useless by the IV that made me feel awful but was probably saving my life.
It’s these tiny cooperations that make parenthood feel lucky.
