This is part of a creative project called 100 Word, 100 Days. In this project I’ll be writing a 100 word piece about my experience as a new mother every day for 100 days. Read more here.

My husband and I took our daughter to her first street festival today. She slept through amateur punk bands and wrestling demonstrations, slumped in a baby wrap against my husband’s chest.

We marveled at her calm, especially compared to our dog. A few blocks in he got so overstimulated he tried to climb into my arms. We turned back, met a friend, and found a patio to chill in. Our daughter fussed, our dog relaxed.

At home she startled awake for the first time when our dog barked. It’s an exciting milestone that will make our home much less calm.
