This is part of a creative project called 100 Word, 100 Days. In this project I’ll be writing a 100 word piece about my experience as a new mother every day for 100 days. Read more here.

One day I’ll teach my daughter card games. We might start with Uno and War. When she’s a little older we’ll move on to Euchre, Cribbage, and Nutsy. For now I play endless games of Solitaire on my phone.

I want to be fully present with her. I want to gaze into her eyes and marvel. But she likes to fall asleep while eating, and stretches her feedings out for an hour. The game keeps me awake at night and occupied during the day.

I remember my dad teaching me Solitaire. I hope she’ll have equally fond memories of me.
