This is part of a creative project called 100 Word, 100 Days. In this project I’ll be writing a 100 word piece about my experience as a new mother every day for 100 days. Read more here.
There’s a story my dad likes to tell. His mom once scolded him when I was a baby for calling me stubborn. She insisted I was determined. Until she watched me and referred to me as my dad’s “stubborn daughter”.
It feels like we’re raising a very particular girl. I say particular rather than fussy, because it sounds more intentional. But if she already has strong opinions about the angle she’s held at, the pacifier she’s offered, or the music played to soothe her, does the word choice matter? We’ll be hearing her opinions for the rest of our lives.
